Do some internal reflection of prior positive experiences to prepare a specific and scheduled plan. Consider what worked in the past for yourself or others? Interact with others to get energized and motivated. Reinforce the logic behind the plan you have chosen. If you need to know more, do the necessary research.

Then, as you start your action plan, apply your natural preference for make arrangements in your life to support the change. Follow a structured schedule that an help you reach your goal efficiently. Make sure your plan is precise, concise, organized and logical.

As you make progress, focus on the immediate next steps. Also regularly reflect back on what is going well. Recall memories of enjoyable sensations and positive experiences. This will help you stick with it! Schedule and organize fun and healthy family and group activities, parties or sporting events. Challenge yourself to see how you can accomplish more than one task at the same time. For example organize a hike with your son’s scout troop. Organize grocery shopping trips efficiently with a list of healthy items you have prepared in advance. Stay away from the unhealthy distractions, by sticking with your list.

If you face setbacks, reflect on specific details of what happened. What went right and what went wrong? Revise the plan with concrete steps that worked in the past. Make sure plan fits easily with other responsibilities. Once you find a routine that works, stick to it so that you feel this part of your life is organized and settled.
